Solimar Products for Windows 2000
SPD SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces the release of Windows 2000 versions for all Solimar products. The Windows 2000 upgrade is complimentary to current Solimar® Print/Director System NT users on active support. DOS customers on active support may upgrade for a fee.

Solimar's support of Windows 2000 continues its path of utilizing the latest and most popular high-performance PC operating systems available. Windows 2000 is the third operating system which Solimar's flagship print server has supported. The product's roots go back ten years to a first generation DOS version. Solimar developers pushed the boundaries of DOS and eventually overwhelmed the capabilities of C++ compilers with Print/Director's many modules and features. From DOS, Print/Director moved to the more powerful Windows NT 4.0 operating system. Windows NT provided Print/Director with a flexible and user friendly GUI interface along with 32-bit processing for increased performance. The Windows 2000 version of Print/Director promises to improve upon the many capabilities of its NT predecessor.

Adding support for Windows 2000 continues the Solimar commitment to provide leading print server solutions on a low cost PC platform. Running under Windows benefits companies since the vast majority of users will already be familiar and comfortable with its operation. Compared to Unix or mainframe based products, the platform cost for Windows 2000 is small and operator learning curves are greatly reduced.

To further enhance the already impressive conversion speeds of Print/Director, Windows 2000 introduces several new technological advancements. These improvements include superior memory management, faster disk I/O, increased networking speeds (gigabit ready), and support for more memory. With these new capabilities, Windows 2000 will increase the Print/Director conversion speeds which already exceed 20,000 pages per minute on Pentium 800 NT machines for many applications. As PCs continue to get faster and more powerful, Print/Director's conversion speeds will easily continue to surpass products that run on mainframe or Unix platforms. Microsoft also claims to have achieved significant improvements in operating system control in the change from Windows NT to Windows 2000.

The Solimar® Print/Director is used by thousands of corporations worldwide to provide fast, flexible, reliable print stream conversions along with integrated connectivity between computing and printing systems. A powerful queue/spool GUI print management system is at the core of this system which centrally manages print while driving multiple production printers. The product is popular in mainframe, midrange, and networked computer environments. It supports PCL, PostScript, Xerox LCDS/Metacode, IPDS, AFP, PDF, SCS, and ASCII data streams, as well as a broad range of printers from IBM, Xerox, Oce, HP, and other vendors.
