SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces support for direct tape input! The Tape Input Module is the latest fully integrated connectivity option available for the Solimar® Print/Director (SP/D). The Tape Input Module offers a convenient way to print IBM AFP, Xerox LCDS/Metacode, or other PDL formatted jobs stored on tape for processing by SP/D. Printing via tape input allows jobs to be submitted from systems that are not directly connected to the SP/D system or from print files that have been stored for backup purposes.
Operators simply load tapes into Print/Director controlled tape drives. The tape data is received from the tape device over a SCSI connection to the SP/D computer. Once the data is on the PC, you can take advantage of SP/D's print stream conversions and powerful job management capabilities to modify and route the data to meet your printing and archiving requirements. The Module can also be used to replicate a Xerox LPS offline printing environment.
The Tape Input Module directly controls SCSI attached tape drives. Common tape formats supported include Qic, 3490e and 9-Track. A single Print/Director system is capable of supporting up to four SCSI attached tape devices. Unique features of the module include the ability to name files based on information contained in tape labels and re-block data as it is read.
