SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces several print queue management enhancements to its Windows NT-based print server solution, the Solimar® Print/Director System NT. The Solimar® Print/Director is a PC-based print server that combines connectivity, data conversion, and printer emulation with sophisticated queue management and job control on a Windows NT platform.
The print queue enhancements include:
- 47 presorting options for selecting the order in which files are processed and distributed.
- 20 logical "and/or" filters determine how and where files are to be routed. (name, size, class, user, form, host, page count and destination type to name a few
- Enables load balancing and automatic job routing
- Queue windows allow editing attributes of multiple jobs from a single edit dialog.
Production benefits these features enable:
- Large legacy applications can be parsed into smaller segments.
- The separated files can then be "load balanced" to multiple printers.
- Printers that require the entire file to be received before the job can start printing can now start printing each parsed section of the job before the entire print job is received.
- Information extracted from the print data can be used for automatic routing.
- Large jobs can be set to print on production printers and small jobs to midrange printers.
- Based on the filters jobs can be set up to print, be archived to PDF, saved for two weeks locally for reprints and then sent to a remote site for permanent archive for internal or external customer access on the web.
- Information extracted is used to name files in the queue windows.
- Operators will know what the jobs are and how they are to be distributed.
- Accounting logs track the pages processed and where the job was sent based on the job names.
- After selected files are printed they can be saved in a reprint folder.
- Files may be automatically purged after they have been saved for a specified period of time.
