Keeping in step with the latest print technologies, the Solimar® Print/Director NT PostScript RIP modules now support Level 3 emulation. The Print/Director's support of PostScript Level 3 enables production data centers to take advantage of the most current level of PostScript on their Xerox and IBM legacy printers. The printer emulation modules convert PostScript Level 3 print streams, files, and associated resources directly into Xerox Metacode, TIFF, and IPDS. The Print/Director also supports conversion of PDF files which is licensed in separate conversion modules.

PostScript level 3 is backward compatible with level 1 and 2 while offering many new enhancements. The major improvements are 136 standard fonts and better support for True Type fonts. The conversion engine itself is optimized for quicker processing reaching 1000+ pages per minute.

Other features of Level 3 help ensure the final output looks exactly as the designer intended. The language utilizes new operators, driver enhancements, and special capabilities such as faster imaging of graphics, smoother shading, and idiom recognition. These features render page content more efficiently, reduce download times, accelerate processing, and protect older legacy application documents.

The Xerox Metacode output can enable rated speed printing via a SCSI connection for Xerox LPS production printers. The TIFF output is typically used with imaging, archiving, and fax servers. The Print/Director's IPDS Printer Controller Module provides bi-directional communication and drives IPDS supported network printers.
