SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces 3490e tape drive emulation input for its Windows NT-based print server solution, the Solimar® Print/Director System. Providing integrated connectivity, printer emulations and queue management, the Solimar® Print/Director System now supports a direct offline tape emulation input.
The 3490e tape input emulates a tape drive using a BUS/TAG channel interface. This emulation eliminates the need for MVS mainframe users to create tapes for offline printing onto 3211-supported printers. In addition, Solimar® Print/Director users with offline data can avoid the laborious tasks of writing data onto tapes, loading the tapes into tape drives and then reading the tape to a directory prior to printing.
Many MVS mainframe users would like to print without the need to handle and track tapes. The 3490e tape emulation used in conjunction with Print/Director's SCSI SDI Output Module allows supported Xerox LPS Metacode printers to continue to run in offline mode while providing a direct and high-speed connection from the host to the printer.
Other MVS mainframe users would prefer to print in online mode to the Xerox Metacode devices. However, there are JSL portability issues that can arise when attempting to change offline data to online. The most common are carriage control processing differences and many features available in offline mode, are not available when printing online. When combined with the Print/Director's XCHANGE::Metacode Emulation Module, offline data can be printed online via an integrated BUS/TAG channel and even if offline specific printer features are used. In addition, the Solimar® Print/Director allows offline or online Xerox LCDS/DJDE/Metacode data stream to be printed to network printers or converted to PDF for archiving.
