SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces support for double-byte fonts in Xerox LCDS/Metacode applications. Double-byte or Kanji font support is necessary for many Asian-based applications produced in languages such as Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. Double-byte fonts are special in that they use two bytes of information to represent each character. This greatly increases the complexity of the font since each font may contain thousands of characters and be several megabytes in size, but is necessary to facilitate all the characters used in the language.
The expanded support for double-byte languages enables the Solimar® Print/Director's Xerox emulation modules, XCHANGE™ to convert Asian language Xerox applications currently produced on Xerox LPS printers into other formats. Double-byte transforms include output support for PostScript, TIFF, PDF, PCL, and IPDS. This provides the ability to migrate double-byte applications to archive systems and other makes and models of distributed and production printers.
