SAN DIEGO, CA - Solimar Systems, Inc. announces a new software backup system for its Windows NT-based print server solution, the Solimar® Print/Director System NT (SP/D NT). Installed in thousands of data centers around the world, SP/D NT is the essential link in many production printing environments. To ensure the heart of productivity in data centers does not get interrupted, most customers have a backup Solimar print server in addition to the production system. In the event of hardware failure, customers simply switch production to the backup system.
There are three types of backup systems offered by Solimar Systems. A HOT Backup System is a true fully-functional second system which is ready for production at all times; a COLD Backup System includes spare hardware only and allows for the software license to be moved to a second PC; the new WARM Backup System includes spare hardware and offers a temporary software license to a second system which can be turned on as needed.
Solimar developed the WARM Backup System to meet the needs of production data centers, many of which operate three shifts, seven days-per-week. The benefits of the WARM Backup System include:
- 100% redundancy of the Solimar production print server at a substantial discount.
- Any down time is limited to minutes with the backup system on-site or at a disaster recovery location.
- Test applications and printing on the recovery system without touching your current production environment.
- Production overflow system able to operate during unusually high printing demands.
The WARM Backup System program is intended to provide customers a cost-effective option for backing up their SP/D NT system, but is not intended to be used for everyday production. The WARM System includes a temporary software license with five seven-day activation passwords.
The Solimar print server is commonly used to route mainframe and Xerox applications to production and distributed PostScript, PCL, and IPDS printers. The system can also generate PDF and TIFF files for COLD storage, viewing, reprinting, and web publishing.
